Cycling and hiking

The surroundings of Wemeldinge offer plenty of biking and hiking opportunities to enjoy the beautiful countryside.

There are several rural cycling routes in the area, such as the Zeeland Blossom Route or the Pocket of South Beveland Route. These routes take you through idyllic landscapes, including orchards, polders and historic villages. Hotel Brasserie Smits is one of the stopping points on the Cycling network.

Mills

There are two notable mills in Wemeldinge: the Oude Molen and the Korenmolen De Hoop. Both mills contribute to the charm and historic character of the village.

Mill De Hoop is an 1866 corn mill located on the West Kanaalweg in Wemeldinge. It is a round stone scaffold mill with a flight of 21.70 meters. Mill De Hoop can be visited between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Old Mill is one of Wemeldinge’s most famous landmarks. This stone rack mill dates from 1801. the Aeolus is a corn and peel mill in Wemeldinge. The mill is named after the name of the Greek god of wind, Aeolus. This mill was built in 1869 as revenge for a millwright who had the current mill de hoop built a little further away. The Old Mill can be visited every last Saturday of the month between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Markets

In the Wemeldinge area there are several weekly markets where you can enjoy a wide range of fresh produce, local specialties and cozy atmosphere.

Weekly market Goes
Every Tuesday and Saturday, the weekly market takes place at the Grote Markt in Goes. The market is filled with stalls selling food and non-food on Tuesdays, and on Saturdays you will find mostly stalls selling food.

Middelburg weekly market
Middelburg is a true market town and busy from all over the region. The weekly market in Middelburg is open every Thursday from 09:00 – 16:00 and Saturday from 07:30 – 16:00.

Goes

Just a few kilometers away is the town of Goes, known for its historic downtown and lively atmosphere. Explore the cobbled streets, admire the monumental buildings and visit the Grand Place with its cozy terraces. Go shopping in the various boutiques or visit one of the museums, such as the Historical Museum De Bevelanden.

Kapelle

This quiet village is known for its beautiful flower fields, especially in spring. Admire the colorful tulips and other flowers while hiking or biking through the area. Also visit the imposing Grote Kerk, which plays an important role in the history of the village.

Yerseke
